At any time in the UK there are more than 30,000 people on kidney dialysis waiting for a kidney. Some will be lucky enough to have a family member suitable and willing to donate, others may receive an organ as a donation after death.
This still leaves a gap and every day two people will die from lack of an organ available for transplant.
UK charity Give a Kidney has the aim of raising awareness that voluntary kidney donation has life transforming benefits for the recipient whilst leaving the donor fully able to lead a normal life.
The organiser of the Transplant Tour, Dennis Carver, is living proof of this and will be riding 500 miles in 6 days from Edinburgh to Oxford with up to 30 other riders to raise money for Give a Kidney
